Swim Meet 101
The Swim Meet Primer found on the SAIL website is a great overview of a swim meet and can help new parents understand how a swim meet operates.
On the day of the meet, plan to arrive at least 15 minutes prior to warm-ups. This will give you and your swimmer and opportunity to locate the Woody Creek tent and get settled before getting in the pool.
There are a total of 80 events in a single swim meet! Each event may have multiple heats. Girls and boys events are swam separately. Your child may swim up to three individual events and two relays. There will heat sheets emailed out on Thursday and you can print them to bring to the meet. They will tell the order of events and when your swimmer(s) will swim.
What to bring to a Swim Meet:
- Swim cap
- Goggles (extra pair wouldn’t be a bad idea) chair or extra towel to sit on
- Healthy snacks
- Water
- Gatorade
- Money to buy snacks at concessions
- Sunscreen
- Sweatshirt/sweatpants in case you get cold in between events
- … and lots of patience!
The swimmers sit together as a team. Please help your child get situated, and let him or her know where you will be.
Please ask someone if you don’t understand something or want to know more.
